IN Insurance Legislation Passing
Guest speaker, Jay Kenworthy, Communications Coordinator for the Insurance Institute of Indiana, Indianapolis spoke Saturday, May 5th, 2007 at the Indiana NAIW Council meeting on the subject of the Insurance Institute representing 26 Insurance Companies and the work they do in conjunction with the Big I, lobbying and taking political action for insurance law at the state level. Laws that have or will be signed into law follow: a bill authored by Representative Dan Stevenson, which concerns Insurance company notification to the insured when there is a change or reduced coverage. Another law reflected procedures for companies filing forms after a manuscript was formed and implemented. Then he discussed the law increasing fees which will increase the monies used by the Insurance Commissioner for insurance company audits and form filings as well as the change from a four year term to a two year renewal term for agents’ license. A seatbelt law for trucks and backseat passengers will also become law and seatbelt checkpoints will no longer be legal. This law enabled the state to apply for a sixteen million dollar grant for roads. Accident response fees for police were banned and an eight dollar cap was set for crash reports with the exception of the state police who are currently under contract, at twelve dollars, until the contract has expired. Last but not least a ban on the health insurance clause regarding lowest reimbursement rates was passed into law, in order for all health carriers to negotiate rates.
